With information systems getting bigger and more complex, the importance of an adequate automated system for release management in the broadest meaning also increases. OMS offers high quality and complete application management: from registration of a Request for Change up to and including transfer and distribution to production environments.
OMS is applicable for complex maintenance cycles and applications that use versions for different countries.
Paramount in OMS is the focus on the object, not on the source from which it is created. This approach eases the management of everything that can be considered as an object: not just source-members, messages, pc-objects and documents, but also 4GL-entities. OMS supports all 4-GLīs that can be installed on OS/400: LANSA, AS/SET, COOL:2E, COOL:Plex and IDDOS.
With the advent of the Integrated File System (IFS) on AS/400 data from other platforms can be managed by the AS/400. The new OMS release supports the IFS. The object types in the management scope have therefore been expanded with, among others, Java-applets and HTML.
The modular structure of OMS enables fazed implementation. The minimal OMS configuration can be extended by e.g. the 4GL-modules. Another module is Impact Analysis, an advanced analyzing-tool.
